NIDians blog to beat placement blues

Good morning friends.  Many of us were all familiar with blogs.  Some may result positive and some may result in negative.  Many were fond with their own blog.  Where they can express what they have in their minds.

Creating blogs has become a rage in the campus of National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. The blogs represent students’ desire to reach out to potential recruiters and also hunt for internships and diploma projects.

It’s a virtual exhibition gallery displaying works of art along with links to personal profiles, resumes and project works. Designing students, like other educational institutes, are fearing a recession effect while searching for corporate houses ready to hire their expertise.

NID students have opted for cyber approach to reach out to a wide range of designers, designing houses and corporates. This, according to the budding designers, is much easier and more effective than meeting each future recruiters personally.

Soheni Arora, a student of third year of product designing says, “Earlier I used to upload my sketches, poetry, among other works. But, recently I decided upload my portfolio on the blog as well. This page includes all details that a prospective recruiter would like to know about me.”

Till date, the usual practice was for students to get hard copies of their work and carry them from door-to-door, making presentations before various corporate houses and designing firms. Since the number of corporate and designing houses to be contacted has gone up, the earlier approach has become inconvenient.

“It is like a one-stop-shop for a students’ work. However, this practice it has its pros and cons. Putting our work in cyberspace is risky. It will be difficult to handle intellectual property rights issues,” said Mansi Parekh, a third year student of animation design.
