My Tribute to ACP Ashok Kamte who lost his life in Mumbai fight against terrorist on Wednesday. The tall Ashok Kamte was a bundle of opposites His fit, muscular build and trademark beret — rather than a senior police officer’s khaki cap — gave him the look of an army commando. And sure enough, he too had taken part in many encounters, earning a reputation for daring.
Yet, what he stood out for was his coolness of mind and this led him to be trained as a negotiator. And it was this skill, always in demand in a hostage situation that explained his presence with Karkare and Salaskar before the Cama and Albless Hospital last night.
ACP Ashok Kamte had earlier served as the commissioner of Solapur. Kamte was always known to be in the thick of action. Kamte had followed his father Marutrao, an inspector-general of police, into the force. He did the family name proud as deputy commissioner of Solapur, when he became a hero among residents. “A cop that turned Solapur from a wrong city to the right one. The person who every responsible Solapurkar liked and loved,” writes one of the 400-odd fans on his Orkut profile.
I salute ACP Ashok Kamte and pray to GOD to give him Peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Mr. Kamte at his mother’s home in Dehli last January. He was on his way to Italy for a UN forces training. He was one of the most interesting and pleasant men I have ever met. I told him that my father was a police officer in the States, and we exchanged stories. May God rest his soul and bring peace to his family.

My prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the incredibly courageous police officers that looked evil in the face and stood up to it.

I got to see this supaercop when I accompanied my friend for his Civil Services Interview. He was panel member .When he came out to receive phone call …… I saw him.
What a personality he has had….. Oh my god!! I was at awe to look at his demeanor and the way he carried himself. Absolutely fantastic. One of the fittest officer I have ever seen….From that day.. I keenly followed …he as Commissioner of Police at Solapur….the way he brought notorious and goonda politician in Solapur to books.. his heroics and dare devil attitude…
Such men are few…. nad they are meant for even higher tasks… Still unable to believe the news… But their memories are immortal. .. I pay tributes to your soul…. May it live in peace.

I first met Ashok earlier his year when I was running a course with Mumbai Police. Ashok and I immediately got on well. One of those things, Ashok is so admirable a person and so likable, and too much of a gentlemen. Last week we worked together again for 3 days in Mumbai and enjoyed professionally and after work each others acquaintance. A strong and potentially life long mutual respect was developing. Ashok, I am still in shock, I will remember fondly our acquaintance and that superb dinner you had prepared at your home. The tragedy of death is not that one has died, for that is a moving on to bigger, better and greater things, but rather, the real tragedy is that we miss the deceased and Ashok in this instance, a man larger than life in characature, moral and fine standing and your passing is indeed sorely missed.
To your friend Sanjay who I am sure is as shocked and as sad as I, and especially to your dear family, loving wife and children of which I only saw in photograpghs, my heart goes out to you, my thoughts are with you and my prayers are for you.
Rest in peace Ashok, friend.
